Calendar Highlights

DoubleTake Family Day

Hurry down to Experience Music Project June 11 for a day full of artistic fun during DoubleTake Family Day. EMP's DoubleTake: From Monet to Lichtenstein exhibition features 28 works on loan from the private art collection of Paul Allen. The exhibit introduces side-by-side pairings of works from Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists with modern paintings and photography, giving viewers a chance to compare and contrast subjects, methods, media and objectives of the artists. Before entering, watch an entertaining, short introductory film that suggests things to look for when viewing the art. Be sure to pick up an audio tour on the way in; adults will enjoy the informative tour narrated by curator Paul Hayes Tucker, while children have their own kid-narrated tour. Visitors of all ages will find lots to think about, as DoubleTake attempts to help them observe art in a fresh way.

Along with the exhibit, the day offers DoubleTake-inspired music from twin performers Identical Harmony, puppet shows by Clay Martin (including Jekyll and Hyde and another specially commissioned work), poetry writing, hands-on art projects (mono-print-making and sunglass decorating) as well as DoubleTake-themed learning activities.

11am-4pm (museum hours 10am-8pm). $8 adults, $7 ages 7-17, free ages 6 and younger. Special offer: buy an adult admission, get one free youth (ages 7-17) admission. Experience Music Project, Seattle Center, 325 Fifth Ave. N, Seattle. 1-877-EMPLIVE (367-5483). www.doubletakeexhibit.org.
