Contests for Kids

The Puyallup Spring Fair’s Creative Kids Exhibit has a new way for kids to compete. The Style-a-Shoe Contest for ages 6-15 allows kids creative reign as they decorate shoes in various categories: Boot, High Heeled Shoe, Sandal, Tennis Shoe, Flip Flop or Loafer, and Slipper. Judges will look for creativity, originality and workmanship. Entry dates are noon-7pm April 10 and 11. FREE. The annual Student Bicycle Essay Contest is for students ages 16 and younger from around the world. Write on any aspect of bicycling for a chance to win cash prizes. Create a piece of art that depicts your favorite ballet scene for a chance to win two tickets to Pacific Northwest Ballet’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (April 3-13). Any medium may be used. FREE. Woodland Park Zoo wants help naming the newest baby gorilla. The western lowland gorilla was born last October to mother Amanda and father Vip. Names to be considered must be in the African languages of Swahili, Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba, languages that reflect the gorillas’ African area of origin. Entry forms are available at any Western Washington Ivar’s or Kidd Valley restaurants, at the zoo, or online at www.zoo.org. The forms must be returned by 5pm March 23.
